Every year all 4th graders are taught a unit on Energy Conservation. Included in that unit is an activity where they are all assigned the job of an auditor. They go around the school and have to identify what is being wasted. These pictures are from 2017 however they do it every year!
Energy Conservation Presentation
Following their study of Energy during Science, 4th graders at SLES prepare a presentation on energy conservation including what they have found during their energy audit. Then they present to 3rd graders. This picture shows a 2017 PowerPoint presentation.
Energy Conservation Posters
Some 4th grade students choose to complete their Energy project as a poster. These posters are examples from 2017 and will be hung in the SLES halls to educate other students and staff about the importance of energy conservation.
Energy Monitors
Student jobs like Electrician, Computer Monitors, Smartboard Monitors, Light Helper or a Caboose who turn out lights and/or computers when leaving the classroom or when not in use can be found throughout classrooms at SLES. These photos are from 2016-17 classrooms.
Energy Saving Tips on Morning Announcements
Each month an energy report is sent to every school in CCPS by our Energy and Environmental Specialist. The students shared over morning announcements how SLES is doing. They also periodically share other tips on how to save energy during their weekly Waste Not Wednesday announcements. This photo is from 2017.
