The after school club Men of St. Leonard (MOS) maintains the SLES bluebird trail. In 2016 they replaced one bird house. In February 2017 they replaced two more. Each Spring they monitor the bluebird houses. These photos show the repair and replacement of the two houses in 2017.
Kindergarten Bulb Planting
October 2016, Kindergartens planted bulbs outside their classroom. They will be watching to see them pop from the ground in the Spring.
Feeding the Birds
In January 2016, Kindergartens made bird feeders using honey, bird seed and pinecones to hang as a food source for the birds in the winter. They used natural materials and materials found in nature to give back to birds during winter.
Courtyard Beautification
Our courtyard has always been a great place to find a class having a special lunch with their teacher, or a celebration of our M.E.S.A. teams hard work and success at M.E.S.A. competitions. During the spring of 2016, our courtyard was beautified in celebration of SLES's 20th anniversary. Students began by helping to pull weeds. With the help of Kelly McConkey Landscaping, a generous donation by one of our families, and the sweat of former SLES students currently in Calvert High School's National Honor Society, the courtyard was weeded, trimmed and mulched. CCPS's Maintenance Department then came to paint hopscotch and 4-square templates on the concrete. Our F.A.S.T. (Family and School Team) purchased a sunshade and new picnic table and benches. Many of our classrooms now use the courtyard for movement breaks and to watch the change in seasons of our plants and trees.
